A beautiful, peaceful town sitting in the shadow of Menorca’s highest point – the imposing Mount Toro – the town boasts all sorts of attractions for visitors to enjoy, uncluding an authentic Menorcan restaurant set inside a restored windmill, and a beautiful local church with murals adorning the walls. The name ‘Es Mercadel’ derives from the Latin word ‘mercatum’, meaning market. In 1301, King James II of Menorca decided to establish a public centre of commerce on the island, and the bustling open air marketplace of Es Mercadel remains a popular place to visit on Menorca holidays, even in modern times.
Menorca’s third largest town, Alaior is famous as home to the island’s cheese-making facilities, a fact which makes it a popular place to visit for travellers of all ages who enjoy sampling fine cheeses! The local produce can be purchased at the town’s daily food market, and makes a wonderful treat on your Menorca holidays. There is also the opportunity to find local handicrafts, clothes, and jewellery at the market, and the town has a cultural museum and even an art and sculpture gallery. Alaior is also popular with walkers and nature-lovers for its nearby trails, which are rich in bird life and wooded areas.
Established in the 18th century, Es Migjorn Gran is characterised by attractive whitewashed buildings with large porches and wooden shutters, which give the whole town an air of ‘classical Menorca’. It’s noted for a bohemian atmosphere and a number of artists live and exhibit their work in the village – making it a quirky and character-filled place to explore on your Menorca holidays. There’s plenty to see and do around the area – give it a chance, and see what you can find.

Transport & Getting Around The Island
Getting around the Island of Gran Canaria is made easy by a system of highways that encircle the entire island and run up into the mountainous areas as well. Using these highways is a fleet of modern buses, which provide the best way to get around and to see the island. A railway has also been approved, and construction hinges now on the budgeting. There is a single airport on the island, the International Airport of Gran Canaria-Gando, which is known as one of the busiest Spanish airports because of the vast amount of traffic.
Weather & Landscape
The Island of Gran Canaria is a wonderful place to visit and to vacation. Most of the 2.2 million visitors to the island prefer the southern part of Gran Canaria, which is sunny and warmer than the northern part.
